Cultural Foundations for Workplaces

On Wednesday 21 October One2One’s Admin and Leadership team participated in Jolleen Hicks’ incredible workshop. Key takeaways from Jolleen’s workshop for One2One are:

  • The team learned some key cultural information to increase awareness of important considerations when developing services for aboriginal people in WA.
  • There are over 300 separate aboriginal groups with unique cultures across Australia
  • There are 16 Noongar groups in WA – Whadjuk people are only one of these
  • Government census depicts Aboriginal people make up 3.3% (800,000) of the population however it is highly likely that Aboriginal populations are underreported to Government.

Reconciliation involves Truth and Healing. All Australians need to respond to the consequences of colonising Australia, so that we can be the best country we can be. This includes accepting collective responsibility to preserve and protect what is left of Aboriginal culture and history.

To learn more about Jolleen’s work, head to her website.

Kookaburra Yoga Retreat

On Thursday 15 October, One2One Admin and Leadership team participated in a day’s retreat at Kookaburra Yoga where owners Mandy and Robert led the team through some yoga, a bushwalk, sound healing and an important session on Chaos to Calm.

Chaos to Calm outlined how staff can reduce stress in the workplace, particularly following COVID experiences.  This event was held to connect our team and enhance wellbeing for our office staff and Coordination team.

Tahlia

Tahlia has had a super exciting year and has achieved lots of things to be proud of.

Her main goal for the year was to gain part time employment and she was successful in securing a job at McDonald’s, she went through the interview and trial process unsupported, and has since been working and earning her own money.

Tahlia stepped out of her comfort zone, got dressed up and attended her school ball with all her friends and had a great night.

Through her schooling Tahlia attends a hospitality course each week and during this process has successfully attained a Certificate 2 in Hospitality and has completed a barista course.

Tahlia is a social butterfly who loves to be apart of all things that involve her friends and will be able to achieve great things with her positive can do attitude.

We are looking forward to see what Tahlia is going to achieve next!
