We currently have opportunities for Support Workers to work with our consumers who live in Collie. The following individual profiles describe what the people are ideally looking for in their successful staff.
Collie “I am a woman in my 30’s who is very easy going and looking for Support Workers to join my team. Some of my passions include outdoor activities such as fishing and also the arts and crafts. As mentioned, I am easy going and would like to engage with like-minded people who have a positive attitude, happy and polite demeanour. I love being independent and the ideal Support Worker would be courteous, respectful and not pushy. If you have a drivers licence and vehicle and share similar interests, I would love to hear from you”

Driftability at Barbagallo Raceway
Driftability is a community race event for special needs & disabled young adults to allow them to experience the thrill of what it’s like to ride in a race car. This year, the event will be held on Thursday 26th November, with rides starting at 9:00AM. We will be holding 100+ passenger rides over the full day in drift cars, as well as hot laps in exotic supercars.
We have this year opened up registration to allow for even more passengers over the course of the day as the event has grown each year.
Head over to the Driftability Facebook page, give it a like to keep up to date with news and details, and sign up anyone who is 16+ within the special needs community that you think would enjoy such an experience. You can read more information about Driftability on their website.
Early Days Workshops
Early Days workshops are run throughout the year for parents and informal (unpaid) carers of young children, aged 0 to 6 years, who have recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or referred for an assessment. Workshops are held in small groups to give parents the opportunity to meet other parents. These workshops are FREE to attend and refreshments are provided.
Side by Side is a peer support group for families that experience behaviours that can be seen as challenging. They welcome new families joining the Side by Side community and their Facebook page is humming with questions, stories and ideas. They had some online sessions during COVID-19 and have now moved back to face to face get-togethers. Side by Side continues to offer online support as these have been successful for our working and, or regional families.
If you would like any further information about the Side by Side programme please contact Maggie 0400 509 892 or Bron 0414 813 489 or visit their website.
Ali
Ali has been living independently for four years in her unit in Glendalough where she continues to thrive under the watchful eye of supporters, friends, and family (a.k.a Team Ali). She’s a social butterfly who likes nothing more than to feel part of everyone’s family. Her own family is very small, just mum and dad and a sister who until recently lived interstate; she loves being included in support workers’ extended families where she can have fun with teenagers, young adults, little babies, young mums and grandparents.
Ali also likes attending live concerts and musicals so she was disappointed to miss out when West Side Story was cancelled due to Covid-19. Also cancelled was a holiday to Bali but now she is looking forward to a short break in Broome with her friend Rhianna and two support workers.

Start your day with a positive mindset
What if you could start the day with a better mindset even when things don’t quite go as planned?
There are two simple techniques to draw on to start the day with a positive mindset. Choose one of these to focus your 15 minutes on:
Option 1
Dip into your happy memory bank.
Tap into the happiest moment of your life, the proudest you’ve ever felt, or the time when you’ve felt most content. Really think about it and place yourself in that situation (e.g. picture what you see, focus on the sounds, smell, and touch that you experience in that moment).
Now, turn your attention to the effect of that happy memory has triggered within your body. There’s every chance that this has triggered a warm, fuzzy feeling and you may even have a smile on your face.
Option 2
Practise gratitude – what 3 things are you thankful for?
It could be someone you’re thankful to have in your life, an ability or skill that you possess, a great opportunity you’re been given in your life, or even nature (e.g. sunsets or the crisp, fresh air).
Again, once you have these 3 things in sight, turn your attention to the effect these have had on your mood and your body. Do you feel lifted? Content and satisfied?
Yes, the happy memory bank and gratitude techniques really are that simple and powerful and set you up for the rest of the morning with a more positive outlook.
