One2One Grapevine – June 2019

We have some interesting online resources and events happening in Perth this month.

National Disability Scheme Survey

As you are aware, the National Disability Scheme is now rolling out across Western Australia and is expected to be fully rolled out by June 2020, where the scheme will provide supports to over 425,000 people Australia wide.
Anne Livingston, the Systemic Advocacy Project Officer at People with Disabilities WA (PwDWA), has been engaged to seek out the NDIS experiences of individuals, families and carers as the scheme rolls out in WA.
The following short survey has been created to help gather this information. If you are willing to take part in this project please complete the survey at the following link here.

The issues and concerns raised will then be prioritised by a group of participants to provide recommendations to the State Minister for Disability Services to raise at the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).
The project will also provide submissions to the Joint Parliamentary Standing Committee for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and directly to the National Disability Insurance Agency to address systemic and policy issues.
This will be your voice to help make positive changes within the NDIS.

Complex Communication Needs and the NDIS – Developmental Disability WA

In this informative session, they explore how someone with developmental disability and complex communication needs can be included throughout their NDIS planning process. As well as sharing helpful resources that look at:

  • Why everyone can communicate, regardless of their disability
  • How people with complex communication needs can understand and prepare to plan for the NDIS
  • How to explore concepts relating to the NDIS with people who appear to be disinterested or have limited ability to pay attention
  • What supporters can do to help people to understand the NDIS
  • What supporters can do to help people with complex communication needs prepare for their NDIS plan
  • How people with complex communication needs can explore having language relating to the NDIS in their communication systems and devices
  • How to think about setting communication goals

Resources have been co-designed and trialed successfully with a group of people with complex communication needs and will be available online to participants.   Location & Date: West Perth,Monday 10th of June 2019 (9.30am – 2.00pm).   Pricing for this 4 Hour training session:    NDIS Funded: $229.28 (GST free) payment due later through funding.  Non Funded attendees, family or support staff: $25.00 (inc GST).      Please call 9240 7230 if you don’t have parent & carer training in your NDIS plan so the fee can be reviewed.

Safe Guardianship

Does your adult family member have ‘capacity’ to make informed decisions about their lives?  If not, a formal Guardian and/or Administrator may be appointed, if necessary, to ensure that they are given the support and protection they require.   This practical session will provide families with a clearer understanding of Guardianship and Administration orders which can often be confusing and also assist families in deciding when they may be needed in the future.

Pricing for this 3.5 Hour training session (small group): NDIS Funded: $200.62 (GST free) (payment due later through funding). Non Funded attendees: $25.00 (inc GST).    Please call 9240 7230 if you don’t have parent & carer training in your NDIS plan so they can review the fee.   Location & Date: West Perth, Tuesday 9th of July 2019 (9.30am – 1.00pm).
