We have some interesting online resources and events happening in Perth this month.
Early Days Autism Workshops
Early Days Workshops are run throughout the year for parents and informal (unpaid) carers of young children, aged 0 to 6 years, who have recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or referred for an assessment. Workshops are held in small groups to allow parents the opportunity to meet other parents.
These workshops are FREE to attend and refreshments are provided. Unfortunately childcare is not available.
‘The Lives We Lead’ is a social media project to influence the community to better understand the contributions that people with a disability make so they can participate economically, socially, culturally and politically like other members of the community.
The project captures up to 20 video and photo stories of people with a disability going about their lives achieving ordinary and extraordinary things.
The project is funded through a government grant and overseen by a partnership of WA’s Individualised Services, Youth Disability Advocacy Network, People with Disability WA and Women with Disability WA.
If you would like to offer your photo-story to be part of this project, they welcome you to go to the WAiS office (183 Carr Place, Leederville) on: Wednesday 24 July 2019, between 10 – 2 pm; or Saturday 10 August, between 12 – 4 pm.
Alternatively, you can book a time to come along by contacting Susan Stanford on 0408 921 374 or by email here.
They’ll have a portrait photographer and a “story harvester” to gather your words. They want to hear about a time in your life when you felt a sense of achievement about something that you did or contributed.
No promises that the story will be published, but they do promise tasty food and company, a $30 gift voucher, and a great photo or two of you.
